Google Says Only It Can Run Chrome Browser
Google recently told a US court that only Google can properly run the Chrome web browser. Parisa Tabriz, who is the boss of Chrome at Google, explained that Chrome depends a lot on Google’s own technology. She said that Chrome is fast, safe, and full of good features because it works closely with Google’s systems. If someone else tries to run Chrome without Google’s help, it would not work the same way. She also said that breaking Chrome away from Google would be very difficult and has never been done before.
The reason Google had to explain this is because the US government is worried that Google is too big. They think Google controls too much of the internet and does not leave enough space for other companies to grow. The government has started a big court case, called an antitrust trial, against Google. They are trying to see if Google should be split into smaller companies to make the internet more fair for everyone.
Google disagrees with the government. Parisa Tabriz said that if Google is broken apart, it will actually hurt the users. Chrome may become slower, less safe, and lose many of the features people like. Google believes that keeping Chrome and Google services together is better for everyone. This court case is very important because it could change how big tech companies work in the future. For now, the court is still listening to both sides and will make a decision later.
