RURKA KALAN VILLAGE
A STORY BEHIND A STORY
On 29th of August 2024, we the students of Journalism and Mass Communication had our 2nd field visit in Rurka Kalan village or sports and heritage village of Punjab. This other trip is more than just an assignment, because it is an opportunity to immerse ourself as an international, in a brand new world full of discovering, culture, experience, and many others.
Our field visit was divided in many parts.
It's 10 o'clock of the morning, we are all gathered at LPU because this time we decide to reach there by bus, as Rurka Kalan village is 19 kilometers from here.
We have been provided some instructions as usual before the adventure can begin. Everyone on the bus started to vibe in, while i preferred to close my eyes because i felt that this journey is going to be challenging so i prepared myself mentally and physically.

At 11am, we have arrived at the YFC Kurka Kalan place where i already discovered many things. So, once we came inside, they already showed us their sympathy and generosity by offering us free foods before introducing us the place.

After a while, Mr Sandeep Singh who is a farmer and actually a voluntary worker in YFC eventually started his presentation where he developed more about the community, what is their vision, and mission. They use sport to help people grow and improve their communities in terms of leadership, and team work, they believe that sports can change lives and create stronger communities. So far, they have already build many infrastructures like Kindergardens, school, Badminton hall, renovation of A.S.Sr.Sec School, Bhagwan Shri Ram Chandar ji Sports and Dussehra Stadium, converting Rurka kalan into Heritage Village Sath Path Bulla ki, and Janj Ghar Patti Butta Ki, make Rurka kalan green again, they participated to the save water mission 20204 Thaper Model Pond Patti Heta Ki, construction and widening of roads, YFC footbal stadium, wrestling hall, farmer's protest memorial.
Apart from that, we also had a chance to meet with some soccer players thus we could ask them a lot of questions. As well as the farmer in the place, we could see how they traditionally make chapati.
Once we have seen everything at YFC Rurka Kalan, then we visited the Heritage village Sath Patti Bulla ki and Janj Ghar Patti Butta Ki where we intervew those people we saw on place.
Lastly, we have also visited the famous Gurudwaras of Kurka Kalan, Punjab which is the place of worship for Sikhs, they are considered the homes of Sikh gurus, spiritual leaders of the Sikh faith. Gurudwaras is also famous for providing food, shelter and spiritual guidance to people of all faiths. I personally enjoyed that place as i even practiced some tradition gestures. As this place is huge, we were able to see many different God.
PERCEPTION
During this field visit, i was amazed by the cleanliness of the village, because compared to other places in India and to the stereotype and cliché about India, Kurka Kalan village is a a tidy little place and well organized. Starting from this, we can interpret that with a well educated mindset, we can change not only one person's live, but especially one big community which is the mission of YFC Rurka Kalan.
